Three years ago we had the pleasure to have a German TV who wanted to stories about our animals. We were lucky to have Suzanne and Laura, both German, as volunteers and the film crew decided to film them in their experience with animals at Daktari.
Watch this video! Although it's from 2007, a little bit old, it will give you a good idea of the ambiance at Daktari.

Two weeks ago a missionary living behind Sekororo hospital found 3 baby genets in a puddle of water, under a tree, in his back garden. We had a big storm the night before and that's probably why they fell from the tree.
They were crying and very wet. Casper, the missionary waited for the mother to come back but unfortunately, she didn't. He wanted to wait some more but the risk for the genets to die of cold and hunger was too high so he decided to wrap them up in a blanket so they could be warm. It was a difficult decision and we like to think it was the best.
Innocent, a kid who already came to Daktari last year, was with the missionary when he found the little genets. Innocent advised Casper to take the genets to Daktari so we could care for them and also because he has been taught, by Daktari, to care for wildlife.
This is an amazing successful story which proves again that our educational programme works!!!
Candy, the Maltese puddle of Daktari, straight away decided she would be the mother of the kitten and hasn’t left them alone one second yet.

Tanga our orphan Oryx has grown up tremendously and it was time for her to go back to the wild. She has been released on Tangata Farm and is kept very safely from predators.
You can see the video of Tanga's life at Daktari made by Tiffany Schrauwen, volunteer at Daktari, on You Tube

Two weeks ago somebody brought us a baby porcupine who has been caught in a trap.
He has been named Spikey, and is almost a month old. Spikey is always hungry and comes running at you when you call his name. He makes a funny squeaking sound when we give him his bottle of milk. When he will be big enough, Spikey will be released into the wild, so he can meet up with the numerous Daktari’s porcupines.>

One of the new babies at Daktari is Chico and he is amazingly cute! This bushbaby is about 3 weeks old and he loves milk & honey, mealworms and strawberry yoghurt. With his big eyes he keeps a close eye on everything that happens at Daktari and he is starting to make his first jumps. This funny little animal puts a lot of smiles on the faces of the volunteers and
the children. We love our little Chico!
